Why is waterproofing necessary?

It is necessary because it seals off the elements and protects plaster, brickwork and internal property
Because the cost of repairing damages due to areas not waterproofed correctly is huge
We know it is a grudge purchase, but rather get it done sooner than later, as repairing internal plaster & paint is expensive

What should be waterproofed?

Parapet walls, Flat roof buildings, Tiled Roof copings & Flashings, Showers, Wine Cellars, Balconies, Chimney tops, Window sills, IBR & Corrugated roofs, the list goes on…..

When should i waterproof when building?

As soon as possible … Once a slab has been poured, it can be screeded within 48 hours and waterproofed 24 hours thereafter.
The slab will continue to dry out from the underside, and this also gives the concrete great strength (As long as structural cracks have not formed from incorrect concrete installation) You do not want to waterproof a saturated concrete slab, unless you have adequate mushroom venting installed, this will help in the "drying out" of the slab

What is Waterproofing all about?

Waterproof or water-resistant describes objects relatively unaffected by water or resisting the ingress of water under specified conditions.

Waterproofing describes making an object waterproof or water-resistant.

"Water resistant" and "waterproof" often refer to penetration of liquid water. Also, water from condensation is usually separate from "water resistant"
The hulls of boats and ships were once waterproofed by applying tar or pitch. Modern items may be waterproofed by applying water-repellent coatings and membranes. In construction, a building or structure is waterproofed with the use of
membranes and coatings to protect contents underneath or within as well as protecting structural integrity. Waterproofing is used in reference to building structures (basements, decks, wet areas, etc.) Waterproofing should not be confused with roofing, as roofing cannot necessarily withstand hydrostatic head, and waterproofing can.
